Belta, Brazilian Educational and Language Travel Association has presented in the beginning of March the International Education Research in Brazil. The research was performed by Ideafix Corporate Research with the support of Education New Zealand.
In 2012, 175.000 Brazilians have studied abroad. This segment had a turnover of more than one billion dollars. The information was collected with Belta members and non-Belta members who participated in the research.
In comparison between the last researches launched in 2011 by the association, the age range of people who are looking for exchange courses did not change: most of students are still between 18 to 30 years old. On the other hand, the range of staying abroad had increase by one and three months to four and six months. Besides the high social class the market, 92% of agencies surveyed have detected the increase of the middle social class traveling for exchange courses.
Language courses are still on the top as the most popular program sold by agencies, and represent more than 60% of the market share. In second place, high school programs with 13,4%. And in third, vacation programs, 7,3%.
Canada is the most sought destination by students, quoted by 90% of surveyed agencies. USA became in second, with 75%, and in third place, United Kingdom, with 68,8%. According with the database of Belta’s research, in the last decade Canada had a growth in searches for language courses, high school programs, work programs and vacation programs. The USA, on the other hand, placed as the most popular destination for graduation and post-graduation courses.
Malta, South Africa and China became the new destinations looked for students in the last years. New Zealand is a desired destination due to its cost-benefit, security and easy visa.
75% of exchange agencies said they have a great expectation for a growth in this market on the next years.
