New policy from government: 500,000 Japanese students studying abroad by 2033

The Japanese government has officially approved a policy to increase the number of Japanese students studying abroad to 500,000 by 2033. This goal is highly ambitious, considering that there were approximately 223,000 Japanese students studying abroad in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. JAOS, as an industry association, is collaborating with government agencies such as the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology to promote various educational outreach activities.
